You are hereby advised that on March 13, 2000, the Executive Committee of the Catawba Indian Nation denied your application for inclusion of the person named in the attached decision on the Final Base Membership Roll of the Catawba Indian Nation. The denial of the person named in the attached decision is also a denial of all of the lineal descendants of that person. A copy of the attached decision was previously mailed to you by First Class Mail.

You are further advised that all documents relied upon by the Executive Committee were forwarded to the Regional Director, Eastern Region, Bureau of Indian Affairs on March 13, 2000.

You are further advised that you have the right to appeal the decision of the Executive Committee of the Catawba Indian Nation by filing a written appeal within five (5) days of your receipt of this letter with the

THE MATTER OF John Alonzo Canty and Georgia H. Patterson

The Executive Committee of the Catawba Indian Nation met on March 13, 2000, for the purpose of reviewing documents submitted with applications to include the descendants of John Alonzo Canty and Georgia H. Patterson on the final base roll of the Catawba Indian Nation as provided by 25 USC 941e. After reviewing the documentation submitted by the applicants, the Executive Committee of the Catawba Indian Nation made the following findings:

1. That John Alonzo Canty and Georgia H. Patterson was not listed as a member on the roll of the Catawba Indian Nation published in the Federal Register on December 22, 1999, nor on the membership roll published by the Secretary of the Interior in the Federal Register on February 25, 1961 (26 FR 1680-1688, "Notice of Final Membership Roll") nor on the roll of the Catawba Indian Nation prepared in 1943.

2. That the applicants have failed to produce sufficient evidence to show that John Alonzo Canty and Georgia H. Patterson should have been included on either of these rolls.

THEREFORE, the Executive Committee of the Catawba Indian Nation finds that John Alonzo Canty and Georgia H. Patterson and their lineal descendants are not eligible to be included on the Final Base Membership Roll of the Catawba Indian Nation.
